Donut Perfection: Easy Glazed Donut Recipe for Any Occasion


  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the milk, water, and butter over low heat until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the milk mixture, eggs, and vanilla extract to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.
  7. Use a donut cutter or a 3-inch biscuit cutter and a 1-inch biscuit cutter to cut out donuts.
  8. Place the donuts on a floured baking sheet and let rise for 15-20 minutes.
  9. In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 375°F.
  10. Carefully add the donuts to the hot oil, frying for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  11. Remove the donuts from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack to cool.
  12. In a medium bowl, whisk together the confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  13. Dip the cooled donuts in the glaze, turning to coat both sides. Allow excess glaze to drip off before placing the donuts back on the wire rack to set.
